This paper focuses on a course on adult literacy and
community service designed to increase students'
understanding of adult literacy as a societal issue and to
support their involvement as tutors in local adult literacy
programs.  Instructors analyzed the service-learning
experiences of their students and the effect it had on
their practice in the field.
