Critiques the characterization of "at-riskness," with a
focus on adolescents, in light of new media literacies or
"media literacies in new times." Uses this reconstruction
to redefine and reposition these learners as capable and
innovative. Posits a variety of socially and culturally
appropriate literacies, rather than restricting the
definition of literacy to a singular skill or process
applied predominately in school-based settings and tasks.
