Canada. Flowing from the award winning television special
"Flight for Freedom", the series unfolds both the drama and
achievement experienced by learners. The series includes six
topical videos, each examining the quest for literacy from a
variety of perspectives.

This tape is Supplementary Video 5 (C5), Literacy and
Canadian Culture.

This video begins by examining the degree to which rapid
technological change has made ltieracy skills more
essential than ever before. This challenge is contrasted by
the dilemma individuals face in overcoming the social
isolation and cultural restrictions of illiteracy. In a
moving conclusion, viewers learn about a number of ways to
become involved in building a rich and diverse Canadian
