Description / Comments:
This curriculum sourcebook is designed to help adult
learners increase their capacity for community
participation and informed action. Grounded in critical
inquiry into specific issues and their social and
historical contexts, our own priorities, and our options
for making change, the sourcebook provides two kinds of
tools for learners to engage in critical inquiry about
specific issues and their contexts. One tool is a
collection of narrative accounts (written mostly by
teachers) of past community education and service learning
projects. The other is an array of prep and practice
activities that focus on skill- and confidence-building,
particularly in the areas of reflection, analysis,
research, and communication. Within the sections, each
narrative is accompanied by prep and practice activities
that enable students to reflect critically to make
connections between the narratives, their own lives, and
larger social issues.
