Description / Comments:
The Working Experience is a set of three reading texts for
ESL students, written at the low-beginning, high-beginning,
and low-intermediate levels. Central to each lesson is a
short selection on the theme of work. The selections have
been developed from oral and written stories of adult ESL
students telling of their own work experiences in their
native countries and in the United States. The
storytellers' voices can be clearly heard in these
selections. Students will be drawn to accounts of "New on
the Job," "Job Hunting," "A Working Mother," "My Work
Dream," and many others. These topics will stimulate
discussion and invite students to explore their own
experiences with work.

Exercises and follow-up activities in The Working
Experience will develop vocabulary and word analysis,
expand reading and comprehension skills, and reinforce
basic grammar patterns. Each lesson ends with an activity
to encourage open-ended discussion and written expression.
